Trip Overview

The Upper Mustang Motorbike Tour is one of the most thrilling and scenic motorcycle adventures in the Himalayas, taking you deep into Nepal’s restricted Mustang region—once the forbidden kingdom of Lo. This journey blends rugged off-road riding with rich Tibetan culture, desert landscapes, ancient monasteries, and dramatic Himalayan backdrops.

Starting from the lush valleys of Pokhara, you’ll ride through the world's deepest gorge, visit the sacred Muktinath Temple, and cross into Upper Mustang—a high-altitude desert resembling the Tibetan Plateau. The crown jewel of the journey is reaching Lo-Manthang, the ancient walled capital of Mustang, where time seems to stand still.

The ride demands skill and endurance, with ever-changing terrain—dusty trails, riverbeds, stone-paved paths, and winding high passes—but the reward is an unforgettable, soul-stirring experience.

Package Highlights:

  • Lo-Manthang – Explore the last walled kingdom of Nepal with its royal palace, ancient monasteries, and Tibetan culture.
  • Chhosar Sky Caves – Visit cliffside meditation chambers carved thousands of years ago.
  • Muktinath Temple (3,800 m) – A sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists with natural flame and 108 water spouts.
  • Kali Gandaki Gorge – Ride through the world’s deepest gorge, flanked by Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
  • Stunning Himalayan views – Witness panoramic views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and more.
  • Off-road riding adventure – Conquer riverbeds, rocky trails, high passes, and dusty mountain roads.
  • Marpha & Tukuche – Visit charming Thakali villages known for apple orchards and local brandy.
  • Restricted Region Permit Access – Ride into the exclusive Upper Mustang region with special permits.
  • Motorbike Expedition Style – Ride Royal Enfield or Himalayan motorcycles with backup support and crew.
  • Cultural immersion – Interact with local mountain communities, monks, and centuries-old traditions.

Trip Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from our team will greet you and escort you to your hotel in Thamel, the bustling tourist district. After check-in, you’ll have time to rest and recover from your journey. In the evening, there will be a trip briefing where you'll meet your guides, learn about the route, and go over the plan for the upcoming adventure. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Today is reserved for a guided cultural sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The day begins with a visit to Swayambhunath Stupa (also known as Monkey Temple), followed by Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu temples. You'll then explore Boudhanath Stupa, a center of Tibetan Buddhism, and Kathmandu Durbar Square, the historic royal palace. In the afternoon, final checks and adjustments will be made to your bikes, and you'll meet the road captain and support team. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, you'll either take a scenic 6–7 hour drive along the Prithvi Highway or a short 25-minute flight to Pokhara. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel near Phewa Lake. The rest of the day is free to relax and explore the lakeside area, known for its calm atmosphere, cafes, and views of the Annapurna range. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

The real riding adventure begins today. You’ll ride westward through lush hillsides and terraced villages, following the Kali Gandaki River. After crossing the check post at Beni, the terrain becomes rougher, taking you into the world’s deepest gorge. Your destination is Tatopani, a village known for its natural hot springs—perfect for a relaxing soak. Overnight at a local guesthouse in Tatopani.

The ride ascends rapidly today through rugged mountain roads. You’ll climb to Muktinath, a revered pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, located at 3,800 meters. After exploring the temple and enjoying panoramic views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri, you’ll descend to Kagbeni, a medieval village that marks the gateway to Upper Mustang. Overnight at lodge in Kagbeni.

Explore its maze-like alleys, whitewashed houses, ancient monasteries, and royal palace. Overnight at guesthouse in Lo-Manthang.

Spend the day exploring the cultural treasures of the Upper Mustang. A short ride or hike will take you to Chhosar, where you can visit centuries-old sky caves—man-made meditation chambers carved into the cliffs. You may also visit nearby monasteries or enjoy a short horseback ride across the windswept terrain. Return to Lo-Manthang for the night. Overnight at guesthouse in Lo-Manthang.

Begin your descent from the remote highlands of Upper Mustang. Retrace your path through the stunning barren landscapes and stop at various villages for rest and local interaction. The ride winds back through dramatic gorges and brings you to the small village of Chhusang. Overnight at lodge in Chhusang.

Today’s ride passes through the apple orchards of Marpha and Tukuche, known for their traditional distilleries and delicious produce. Overnight at guesthouse in Kalopani on full board basis (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included).

Your final ride takes you through familiar terrain as you descend back through Tatopani and Beni, eventually reconnecting with paved roads on your return to Pokhara. After a successful and adventurous journey, enjoy a relaxed evening near the lakeside with great food and company. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Today you’ll either drive (6–7 hours) or fly (25 minutes) back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
