The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of the most sacred and spiritually significant journeys in the world, drawing pilgrims from across Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon traditions. This overland pilgrimage begins in Kathmandu, Nepal, and crosses the Nepal–China border at Kodari/Tatopani, continuing through Zhangmu, Nyalam, Saga, and Paryang to reach the holy Mount Kailash (6,638 m) and the serene Lake Manasarovar (4,590 m).
The journey is not just a physical trek but a spiritual odyssey, offering pilgrims inner reflection, purification, and devotion while being surrounded by the majestic landscapes of the Himalayas. Along the way, travelers witness traditional Tibetan culture, centuries-old monasteries, and high-altitude villages, making it a unique blend of spiritual, cultural, and adventure travel.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will transfer to your hotel (20–25 minutes, 6 km). In the evening, you may attend Aarati at Pashupatinath Temple. Overnight at 1,350 meters.
Chinese Group Visa submission and cultural sightseeing within Kathmandu. Short city transfers of 30–40 minutes between sites. Overnight at 1,350 meters.
A scenic drive of approximately 115 km takes 5–6 hours along the Araniko Highway to Tatopani near the Nepal–China border. The altitude slightly decreases from 1,350 m to 1,200 m. Overnight in a guesthouse.
After completing immigration formalities at Kodari, you cross into Tibet and drive about 8 km uphill to Zhangmu (2,300 m). The short drive takes about 1 hour, but altitude gain is noticeable. Rest and hydration are recommended.
A 150 km drive of 4–5 hours brings you to Nyalam at 3,750 meters. The road climbs steeply through dramatic gorges to the Tibetan plateau. This is a major altitude gain, so slow movement and proper rest are essential.
A full rest day for altitude adjustment. Short acclimatization hikes (1–2 hours) are recommended. Oxygen levels are monitored.
Today’s 230 km drive takes approximately 5–6 hours across vast Tibetan plains. The altitude rises from 3,750 m to 4,640 m. You cross Lalung La Pass (~5,050 m), offering panoramic Himalayan views.
A 255 km drive lasting 6–7 hours leads to Paryang. The altitude remains relatively stable around 4,550 m, aiding gradual acclimatization.
Day 09 – Drive to Lake Manasarovar (4,590 m)
After 260 km and 5–6 hours of driving, you reach Lake Manasarovar at 4,590 meters. En route, you witness the first magnificent darshan of Mount Kailash. Evening spiritual walk along the lakeshore.
Following morning puja and optional holy bath, a short 40 km drive of 1–2 hours takes you to Darchen, base camp for the Kailash Kora.
Kailash Parikrama (Approx. 53 km)
A 45 km drive (30–40 minutes) takes you to Yam Dwar. From there, a 12 km trek of 5–6 hours ascends gradually to Dirapuk at 4,909 meters, offering close views of the North Face of Mount Kailash.
The most demanding day involves a 22 km trek lasting 9–10 hours. You climb to Dolma La Pass at 5,630 meters before descending to Zuthulpuk (4,820 m). Slow pacing is critical due to high altitude.
A 7 km trek of approximately 3 hours completes the Kora. You then drive 7–8 hours back to Saga.
A 5–6 hour drive descending from 4,640 m to 3,750 m. The lower altitude typically provides physical relief.
After border formalities, continue with a 6–7 hour drive back to Kathmandu. End of overland pilgrimage.
