The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek with Helicopter Return is a perfectly balanced Himalayan adventure that combines classic trekking through lush valleys and high mountains with a luxurious helicopter flight from the foot of the mighty Annapurna I. This 13-day itinerary blends cultural immersion, scenic grandeur, and high-altitude adventure without the need for a long descent. Ideal for trekkers who want to experience the Annapurna Sanctuary in comfort and style, this trek offers breathtaking mountain vistas, rich cultural interactions, and diverse landscapes.
The Annapurna region lies in central Nepal and is part of the greater Gandaki Province. The trek begins in the subtropical hills of Nayapul and gradually ascends through the lush Modi Khola valley to reach the high glacial basin of the Annapurna Sanctuary at 4,130 meters. Along the way, trekkers pass through terraced rice fields, rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and finally, the stark, snow-covered amphitheater of Annapurna Base Camp surrounded by peaks like Annapurna I (8,091m), Machapuchare (6,993m), and Hiunchuli (6,441m). The trail is well-marked and moderately challenging, making it suitable for anyone with reasonable fitness.
The lower sections of the trek are populated by the Gurung and Magar communities, known for their warm hospitality and rich traditions. The Gurungs, in particular, are famous as the backbone of the Gurkha regiment. Along the route, you’ll pass through culturally vibrant villages like Ghorepani, Chhomrong, and Ghandruk, where traditional houses, Buddhist shrines, and cultural lodges offer glimpses into daily life.
The climate varies with elevation and season. In the lower elevations, days are warm and nights are cool. As you ascend, temperatures drop, especially above 3,000 meters, where mornings and evenings can be very cold. Spring (March to May) brings rhododendron blooms and clear skies, while autumn (September to November) offers the best mountain visibility and stable weather.

After 8 days of trekking, a helicopter picks you up from Annapurna Base Camp, offering a swift and thrilling return to Pokhara in just 15–20 minutes. This not only saves time but also avoids the physical stress of descending the same trail.
Equipment rental is easily available in Kathmandu and Pokhara if you don’t want to bring everything from home.
